“LET YOUR WILL ‘OH GOD’ BE DONE IN MY LIFE”.

We all say this prayer often, but not all of us know what we really mean, or permit me to put it this way, WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT WE ARE IN FOR WHEN WE SAY THIS PRAYER AND GOD HEARS IT.

The prayer is a very short one, yet, very powerful enough to turn one’s life around 180 degrees! Bringing you to a point where you are facing a new course of direction with your back completely turned to your former direction. Turning away completely from the old you to the ‘new you’, dropping hold habits and adopting new ones, literally ‘the world behind you and the cross before you’.

Now you will agree with me that we as humans naturally resist CHANGE. We inject botulinum toxin “botox” into our faces when the sign of ageing starts to show. We dye our hair black/brown at the first appearance of white strands of hair on our head. These are to mention a few examples of how we want to go through a process of change without actually changing in its’ real context.

This is the same way we naturally tend to act when God hears our prayer and wants to perform His WILL in our life.

The Will of God for you may not be the present CAREER you’re pursuing. It may not be in the COUNTRY you reside. It may not be the SPOUSE you’re intending to marry and so on, but we must be rest assured that His ultimate Will for our life is for ‘Good’ (Jeremiah 29:11) “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” - that we may live a life of accomplishment and fulfillment.

I didn’t realize the importance of living a ‘fulfilled life’ until I met families that one will ordinarily admire: I mean the ones with Bentleys, Rolls Royce Phantoms and Range Rover Sports in their driveways, the ones living in the best part of town, the ones living the life we all dream of: but on speaking to them I realize they are still filled with depression and frustrations. I hear them complain of a BIG VOID in their life. Void of ‘genuine love between the husband and wife’ or ‘void of honor in their home, honor in their community/country’ gaining the whole world yet losing their own soul, acquiring all the fanciful material possessions only to find out that none of those things actually brings true happiness.

Just of recent, I read in a magazine of a wealthy man who, in a night of rage, killed his two children, his wife, and eventually took his own life too after torching his mansion. The emergency rescue team, when they got to the scene, only met rubbles of the one time £3million detached house in a bucolic countryside and dead bodies of the family every other resident in the area once admired.

Another young lawyer in central London went trigger happy in a night of depression that led to the MET police surrounding the ‘high brow square’ he lives on, shooting him dead after failing on several attempts to get him to lower his rifle.

There are many more of these stories of people we celebrate in our world today, whom if you’re chanced to meet with them you will find out that they are far from happy despite all their fame and possessions: THIS IS SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY’RE NOT IN THE WILL OF GOD FOR THEIR OWN LIVES.

Which further brought me into a deep thought, that after all, maybe I should pursue the WILL of GOD for my life? (Matthew 6:33) “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you as well” BECAUSE IT IS BEING IN THE WILL OF GOD THAT WILL ONLY MAKE YOU A SUCCESS AND A FULFILLED ONE.

This brings me back to the 5th paragraph of this note. In seeking the WILL of GOD for our life, we may be required to leave behind those/what we are presently holding dear to us. Abraham was asked to leave his family behind to follow the WILL of GOD for his life. Isaac was asked to remain in a land of famine in order for GOD’s WILL for his life to be fulfilled. Jacob served Laban for 14 years for the WILL of GOD to manifest in his life. Joseph was sold into slavery to attain the position of Prime Minister in Egypt. The three Hebrew boys Shedrack, Meshack and Abednego had to walk through fire before God appeared and used them to glorify Himself before Nebuchadnezzar. JESUS before he was arrested and crucified prayed (Luke 22:42) “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but your WILL be done”.

So the WILL of GOD for our life may usually appears as a tough route to follow or a very difficult decision to make, but because it is His WILL for our life He will show Himself faithful and reward our obedience.

Many are living a life of mediocrity simply because we have chosen to let go of the grip we have on our life and hand it over to God to turn our life into greatness. Some of us are supposedly ‘living the life’ but we don’t realize GOD intends for us to be far above where we are at the moment. Some of us are even helping God to manifest His blessings in our life by devising other means to get our blessing even when we know it isn’t the WILL of God. Some of us have ‘slept with Potifah’s wife’ and enjoying riches thinking that is God’s ultimate plan for our life, but I’m sorry to disappoint you “IT’S NOT” There is a PALACE WAITING TO BE OCCUPIED BY YOU! Remember Abraham and Sarah tried to help God fulfill His promise to them by birthing Ishmael through Haggai, but because it wasn’t the WILL of GOD for them, Haggai and Ishmael started to bring them unhappiness and they had to send the mother and child away at the end of the day. Their fulfillment only came when they waited for ISAAC to manifest who is GOD’s promise to them.

We often miss GOD’s calling for our life because ‘Wealth’ has now become the yard stick by which we measure success in our modern society, whereas we can see today that isn’t the case. HERE IS A CLUE TO KNOW IF YOU’RE PRESENTLY IN THE WILL OF GOD FOR YOUR LIFE - IF WHATEVER YOU’RE DOING NOW IS NOT BIGGER THAN YOU, TO THE EXTENT THAT YOU DOUBT YOUR ABILITY TO ACHIEVE/COMPLETE IT, THEN IT IS NOT THE WILL OF GOD FOR YOU. THERE’S A HIGHER CALLING OF GOD UPON YOUR LIFE TO IMPART YOUR GENERATION MORE THAN YOU REALIZE. PEOPLE LIKE: - NELSON MANDELA, ALBERT EINSTEIN, MOTHER THERESA, ABRAHAM LINCOLN, HENRY FORD, JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER, MARY WHITE OVINGTON, WILLIAM GATES ARE EXAMPLES OF MEN AND WOMEN WHO GAIN[ED] THEIR PROMINENCE THROUGH LIVING A FULFILLED LIFE OF SERVICE TO MANKIND AND IMPARTED THEIR GENERATION POSITIVELY.

Some of us are lucky, just like JONAH, we try to runaway from the WILL of GOD for our life, but one way or the other GOD still finds us and brings us back on the right path until we fulfill our great destinies. Same was with the PRODIGAL SON who came back to his senses and returned to his father’s house. Unlike JUDAS who couldn’t forgive himself and ended up committing suicide even after Jesus had forgiven him. Unlike SAMSON who lost his power, got blinded, humiliated and eventually got destroyed under the collapse after his strength was restored, unlike SAUL who lost his throne due to arrogance.

WE OF THE PRESENT DAY ARE UNDER A SPECIAL GRACE THAT JUST BY RE-DEDICATING OUR LIFE TO CHRIST TODAY AND TURNING 180 DEGREES AWAY FROM ALL APPEARANCE OF SIN, THEN WE WILL BE BLESSED ACCORDING TO (DEUTERONOMY 28: 1-14) “IF YOU FULLY OBEY THE LORD YOUR GOD AND CAREFULLY FOLLOW ALL HIS COMMANDS I GIVE YOU TODAY, THE LORD YOUR GOD WILL SET YOU HIGH ABOVE ALL THE NATIONS OF THE EARTH…..”

Now this promise is for ALL, but only accessible for the OBEDIENT, hence the word “IF”… Also, being in the WILL OF GOD gives us such confidence that expels every form of fear, knowing that GOD in us is the hope of glory. When Jesus found himself in the WILL OF GOD he could boldly pray "Forgive them Father for they know what they're doing" - he wasn't also ashamed to be baptized by John the Baptist who already confessed that he wasn't worthy enough to tie the lace of his sandals, but because Jesus knew his mission was in the WILL OF GOD he said "In order for the scriptures to be fulfilled..." some of us may be passing through some difficulties right now, and we're tempted to go the route of "if you can't beat them you join them" but I want to encourage you not to lose your faith, allow yourself go through the valley God is taking you through right now. Because "his rod and staff are with you" NO evil shall overtake you and I want to assure you that the pain you're going through now is nothing compared to the Glory God will make shine through you. Moses was 'tempted' to remain in Pharaoh's palace, Joseph was 'tempted' by Potifah's wife but because they refused to compromise, God made manifest through them unimaginable success that humbled the kingdom of the ungodly.

I don’t know about you but personally I don’t want to live an ordinary life, I want to be amongst the few that many generations after them will remember for their great impartation in their lifetime. A few that will remain relevant for good as long as the earth exists; therefore, I say this prayer today “LET YOUR WILL ‘OH GOD’ BE DONE IN MY LIFE”…IN JESUS NAME, AMEN!!!

The Color of Water by James McBride review - race, identity and transcendence

I once encountered a novel in the African literature section of a London library. It was about an out-of-luck black Nigerian man, Furo Wariboko, who went to bed and woke up transformed into a white man. Nothing else about Furo changes (held the same undergraduate degree, spoke in  Pidgin English  and even retained a  Black ass ), yet his social interactions in the vibrant city of Lagos improved overnight: from offers of high remunerating jobs to excessive deference towards him from his fellow Nigerians; all because of his newly-acquired skin colour. I remember sliding that novel back into the library’s bookshelf, thinking the synopsis around Furo’s life was outlandish even for a work of fiction. Not until I immersed myself into James McBride’s demure memoir,  The Color of Water , in which the author unfurled the life-world of his mother, Ruchel Dwajra Zylska, did I realise that I’d been limited in my imagination to think back then that Furo’s story was outlandish, and that reality can,

Bello, Zik and Awo: Youth, Ambition and Unintended Consequences of Independence.

Pointing finger of blame when looking into history is tempting. But, reading two or more accounts of same historical event, by different witnesses, it becomes clear that there are no absolute-truths in history: just points of view. And requires discipline on our part to piece together for better understanding of the past, to build upon the successes, learn from the mistakes, and where possible and desirable make repairs. From accounts of Ahmadu Bello (My Life), Nnamdi Azikiwe (My Odyssey) and Obafemi Awolowo (Awo), we know the slogan ‘Self-Government for Nigeria NOW’ was demand of the ‘politically conscious’ indigenes. Demand continuously watered since 1923-elections in Lagos and Calabar Provinces, when only Nigerian men who earned £100 annually were allowed to vote. People who constitute Nigeria were never consulted if they so desired to be a ‘nation,’ let alone, be independent. Action Group (AG) would go further, at its Owo Conference of April 1951, declaring ‘SGN in 195

Tinubu and end of Village Tree Democracy

The market square humiliation of incumbent governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode, was excruciating to watch even for a non-supporter. It was a ‘power show’ by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. A demonstration that two decades after ‘great minds think alike’ billboards stood on major Lagos streets – a baseless comparison of himself to Awolowo and Gandhi, except for round-eyed glasses – his ability to steer voters in his preferred direction hasn’t waned. I’m mindful that it’s usually an overestimation when an individual is said to have such power over society. Nevertheless, it’s undeniable that Tinubu’s opinions hold sway in Lagos. Indeed, how Tinubu came about that political power, and how it can be brought to an end, is what I intend to interrogate. Majority of Lagos residents are Yoruba. Like many African sub-nationalities, they hold as ideal that, although individual need is self-evident, community need shall supersede. This is argued convincingly by Professor Segun Gbadegesin – what
